As it was quite cool last night (13C) I thought the snake would have been sluggish but it moved quick enough. We get a lot of yellow faced whip snakes here so hopefully only a green or one of them... trouble is without seeing the head they look very similar to a brown which are fairly common here too. There was a lady bitten by a brown only a few km away the other day. She is always careful in long grass but she only went to hang her washing out a few steps from the back door in short grass and didn't watch where she was walking

Gail it was cool here last night too got down to 18 degs I did not have to put the fan on to sleep it was quite a change
We used to get a lot of the whip snakes in Townsville Gail the ones up there were a dark colour with a orange tail, they pack a bite too as you would know. Plenty of Browns ones around too so keep a good watch out..

Mary-Anne, that is the trouble here in autumn, we get warm days and the first part of the night is nice and warm so only need a sheet, around 20 to 22C, but by 3 or 4am it cools right down to low teens and I wake up cold.
How about this snake story at Cooroy which is a little town about half hour south of us http://www.thedaily.com.au/news/2009/mar/04/slithering-under-bedsheets/
