It's not just a pretty face

This is going to be the best crop from this passion vine yet.

Plenty more yet to come

That's a shame Cheryl. This one took a while to get going, only had about half a dozen of it last time but it has loved the hot humid summer and has just taken off. It is only one plant and the roots are on the other side of the tank directly opposite the centre of the bottom pic. I haven't had a chance to taste any yet, the couple that were ripe disappeared into a kid's stomach as soon as they were ready.

When we get too many fruit, I freeze them in ice-cube containers and the kids put them in plain yoghurt for school - it keeps the yoghurt cold and flavours it too . We make our own yoghurt (using Easiyo mixes) and I just buy the plain flavour packet so the kids can add whatever fruit they want.

They are big fruit... I am 5 foot 8 inches, about 172cm tall and my hands aren't big but are more or less in proportion to the rest of me.

Thanks Tessa

You buy the Kit in the supermarket Pamela around $20 and right next to it are the packets of mixes in Coles they are with the Deserts the packet of mixers start at $3.40 where I shop, the Lite are dearer than the regular would you believe..

No I dont have one I was going to buy one but changed my mind.

Thanks Mary-Anne. I only get the plain low fat packets - they are only about $2.50 and make a litre of yoghurt. The flavoured packs are dearer but we add our own flavours. It is much cheaper than buying the same amount of yoghurt especially when you have 4 hungry kids to feed.

All the easiyo kit is a wide mouth thermos and the containers the yoghurt "cooks" in. Just mix up a packet of yoghurt powder in the container with a litre of water then put inside the thermos filled with boiling water. Let sit for at least 8hrs or overnight, refrigerate until cold... enjoy

Here is their website http://www.easiyo.com/

It is certainly a healthier and cheaper way Gail I was looking at them again a few weeks back but after seeing the Greek style mixes there decided I had better not as I would be sorely tempted..

I used to have one in the 80's when I lived in Melbourne, same type of container only you heated the milk up to a certain temperature and added a spoon full of commercial yogurt as a starter then you kept a spoon full of each lot to start off the next batch, after so many batches you bought a new starter, the health food shops used to sell a special starter also.

At present I am eating the Gippsland Natural Organic Yogurt it does not seem to have so much sugar and things they put in them that makes them so fattening certainly not as cheap as your way but better for me I think

I will be very careful looking for ripe passionfruit over the next couple of days. Saw a snake slither along the base of the tank this morning where those plants are in the bottom pic. Only saw the back half so couldn't tell what sort it was but it wasn't a small one... it would have to go close to 1.5m long... wasn't Charlie the Carpet python either... and I didn't see where it went
