Fusliade is a herbicide that kills only monopods - ie grass. It is expensive ($100 for 1 litre) but this can do a whole summer. I mixed up 80 L of herbicide in my towable sprayer with 640 ml of Fusilade and the rest of water with some surfactant added and drove around spraying all my garden beds and specifically the edges as I have rampant couch and kikyu and paspalum. Well having done that a week ago, and having a bit left in the sprayer so I re-sprayed all the beds and edges a second time and then the rain came down. I was fed up as that was an expensive spray and the herbicide only needs one hour to be rain safe, and I knew it was not an hour. Well .... all my edges are now yellow with the grass dying and I am very happy.

This herbicide does not affect any plants or roses so you can easily get rid of the couch invasion. I think it was money well spent. I am trying to use less Round up now as I think it prevents the self fertilisation of various plants across the garden. I still do a round up spray but no longer near my garden beds.

I also love Brush Off which I use with a special surfactant on the hill above my property and the lawn around the pool garden. It kills everything except grass and is great for getting rid of clover in teh Sir Walter lawn and it kills all the broadleaf weeds in the horse pasture. Sadly I cannot drive around with this spray as the hill is too dangerous for my ride on. So its the 15 L backpack but I guess that is good for me to walk up a steep hill with that on.

I have a new herbicide which will kill euculuptus regrowth up to 3 metres and is in granules so when rain is around the corner, I will walk around and spread that like chook food aroiund teh regrowth but will have to keep Sam inside when I do that.

I feel I am getting a handle finally on managing this property for the benefit of the animals and my garden - it has been a steep learning curve of so many rampant weeds.

I`m going to see if Fusliade is available here.
I`ve got bad couch here also but i`m getting on top it by spraying Round up over one area at a time over and over for 18 months till its all dead,sow it down in herbley and then move on to another area,i`ve cleared over 1 hectare this way.

How wonderful - a "green manure" crop? Fennel here takes off like nobody's business - even sows itself on my driveway. But where I do not have garden beds and lawn, I need horse pasture so they would love your place!!!

I only use round up here, not enough weeds really to bother, usually only spray the cracks wen I can be bothered

My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers;
if they don't they're weeds.

It is a green manure crop Pamela and when i walk around that orchard its like walking on a mattress with the soil is so friable now after 4 years,but the best part is the apples is about 99% bug free.
