So sick of these by the hundreds in this clump of lilies. They are the Caterpillar of the Spodoptera picta moth. And are about 4-5 cms long they strip the leaves Leave mountains of poo, do other horrible things

In and on my Crinum Lilies.

This morning I dug it up and binned it.
The bulbs were so big I had to wait for rain to soften the soil so I could do it. Then I had to cut or smash more like it, them into two clumps as I could not lift them, the bigger half Tony reckoned weighed 25 kgs maybe more with a couple of the bulbs the size of medium pineapples and lots of smaller ones around it I could not even lift the half of it.. That wheelie bin is heavy now I tell you, and good riddance to bad rubbish I say.. I have had enough of the destruction from the Caterpillars in my garden..

We seem to get them all year round here now Gwen even in the Winter we have some, the entire garden is getting eaten by something at present, lots of it is a mess and I dont want a garden like that.. I can put up with many things but not all of the caterpillars only some and this one is not one of them .

Its not fair is it? you are having so many problems with caterpillars and hes me trying to get a population of monarch butterflies started here, because i`ve worked hard at creating as much biodiversity as i can through planting large areas in herb lay,all the monarch caterpillars are been killed by parasitic wasps. Great for the rest of the garden though |

You are quite welcome to all the Caterpillars we get here Richard.
Smaller Lilies... No
These are one lot I get in the roses Last years pic same things, they also get bud grubs and other bugs

My Hibiscus and Illawarra trees are full of these
I have pulled out Native flowering vines covered in those wrap around ones as they completely striped the entire plant.. I dont need all these horrible creatures destroying all my hard work I am happy to share but they want 100%

I see what you mean..
quote: all my pollys are pucked Ooppss sorry not looking too good
I asked google what puked mean
And it stated what I though it was To vomit.
Now I have yet to work out how a Polyanthus can do that..

Maybe we can push this topic down the bottom somewhere.
Long lunch time over I am off out to the garden, did I tell you I am pruning all those grubs and bud worms off the roses, at present my JTO rose buds are full of them and they are balling such a unsightly mess with all this rain.
They need their own
