Lilli Marlene is blood red all over with a hint of black through it... like black-shot silk. It is also a floribunda... so the unknown isn't LM.... Looks a bit like the one I shovel pruned a while back that Cree suggested might have been Colourama... same kind of leaf on it too. The garden looks nice and big Richard... but looks like it could use a LOT more roses

TasV This may sound ridicules but there's no room for a rose garden yet,i have a small garden down the east side of the house that i could use but i dont want to have to move them when we rebuild.
I`ll be calling on for some names and advice from the rose growers here then, smelly roses only please

I hope this's pic ok,theres a small amount of yellow at its center

Rose ID is almost impossible with so many thousands and thousands ... but it's lovely

Crepuscle is a wonderful archway rose, as MA knows. I just bought a new rose pruner (aka Ryobi cordless hedge trimmer, 1 hour battery rechargeable) and it has made a pretty shape of my crepuscle on my "horizontal archway" or my front verandah. A couple of larger branches it would not cut but I can nip them off with the loppers.

Cannot help you with the ID Richard..sorry

A agree with Pamela on the climbing rose Crepuscule
There are climbers that do not belong on arches and ones that do..

I agree! Simon I have been just trying to survive here with all the work, the puppy and the summer heat and rain ... that's all.

I just moved my gigantea up to the hill behind my house against a 100 foot tall gum with a water sprinkler that I can turn on from the chook house taps. The tree has Mermaid and Gigantea and a fence around them to prevent the horses eating them and some wood to dam the flow of water down the hill. Mermaid has been there for a year but hardly growing but it may have been the horses. I hope the fence does the trick. Should be spectacular with those two giants as you say.

Richard he is RIGHT - avoid those large monsters that are spectacular - just too large for any arch like that. I have seen a few Banksias on a fence that is pruned regularly with a large hedge trimmer and it makes a spectacular country wire fence about 100 metres long with white blossom and pretty leaves the rest of the year but he has to prune it often - like me and my crepuscle.

Richard I cannot help with roses ,but I do like your artistic arrangement
of the bloom with the pruners.
