I found this plant down in the dam several months ago so dug it out and put it in one of our ponds in the garden. It has now flowered but I can't work out what it is. I have found similar flowers called Water Poppy, both Hydrocleys and Hydrocharis, but the leaves are different on mine and the flower colour is different. The leaves on mine are more of an oval shape not round like the other two.

I Looked at heaps of sites for the water poppy .
Fouds heaps of flowers .65 % were yellow.
Afew whites but with seperated petals, not like yours.
Its a hard one Gail.

Thanks. Gwen, that is all I found too so have no idea. Besides the different shaped leaves, any white ones I saw had yellow centres, not one had pink.

I've found it - it is a native called Ottelia ovalifolia ssp. ovalifolia, Swamp Lily.

Mary-Anne, there were plenty of other sites with it listed, just that one had a better description and pictures.

I did a Google and saw some shots I did'nt find before .
So easy when you have a Genus and species to Google.
Much harder when you're looking for a common name
Well researched Gail

That was a fairly easy one - just did an aussie search for water+plant+white+flower. First got sidetracked with the water poppies but when I had time to go back and search more I quickly found this one.
