I know what you mean about pythons and chooks Gwen, we used to get a big one trying to get into the chook house in Townsville it had no hope Tony builds his chook houses very well..
Gwen they are Lowmans Browns Chooks. Honey, Whiskey Pepsi and Coke I dont know one from the other now they all get called *Girls or Chook* here they are when they were younger.. http://gardendelights.forumco.com/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=1675&whichpage=1
About Jam I dont know anyone that makes it except my Brother-In-Law up the top of England, he even grows the berries and he is 80 in July. I am not a jam person prefer honey on my toast..
Cheryl I found another melon today so it look likes the girls will have another feast..

MA .If your brother inlaw lived in Brisbane those chooks would not be into the melons. The melons would be yurned into melon/ginger jam.I like your BIL. Pitta.

My mother loved her jams and used to make all different sorts... even tomato jam which actually isn't too bad though I'm not really a jam person - I don't mind them but find them too sweet. She used to keep a bottle or two of any jam she made and gave the rest away to friends and rellies or donated them to the church stalls.

Sadly he is putting his small house and small garden (to our standards) up for sale as he cannot manage it anymore he lives in St Bees on the West coast near Whitehaven and close to The Lakes District. Beautiful country there, just too cold for me..
I have never made jam either Gail. My Step-Mum used too and that could be why I dont like them very much..

Rockmelon is so different to this bland Melon there is no juice in it at all actually no flavour, Rockmelon has a very strong flavour and would not be as firm..
Sorry I have no idea ...Pitta will probably know

Thanks Gail, I seen a similar pic on a US site my melons dont look like that they they are pale faced I mean pale skins and the seeds are more the shape of rockmelon seeds, boat shaped is that a word, not round and brown or black like watermelon seeds..

From what I can find out, they come with either green seeds or red seeds and skin colour can vary from lighter to darker, and they easily cross with other varieties of melons. I wouldn't be surprised if some varieties of watermelons have been crossed with these to give them hybrid vigour but when the seeds of these watermelons grow they revert back.
