I love loquats, we had them growing when I was a kid... ate them straight off the tree. Had cherry guavas then too but I wasn't as keen on them. We have the yellow guava coming up here but it is a pest... it's on the weed list as a garden escapee. It is a nice shaped tree but seedlings come up everywhere even quite a distance from the tree. We don't like the fruit but the fruit bats go wild over them as do the rainbow lories.

My 4 fig trees (one is a baby planted only last winter) are all full of fruit. Black ones with pink flesh and green ones with yellow flesh. Might make jam but grilling a lot with brown sugar on them. Might make some pies also and I am sharing much of them. Lots and lots of fruit this year. Trouble is when there is a glut you get sick of the taste ... maybe I will try poaching them and then freezing.

Just went up for today's pick and was beaten by Sammie my puppy to the low growing ones (I bet she has a tummy ache tonight) and the birds to the top ones - but there's still a lot on the trees not ripe yet and several bowls full on the sink from yesterday.

Of course Tony I remember you were a newcomer to Qld, I blame the birds for everything here I am amazed at the amount of strange seeds I see on the driveway.
That is good that your trees are coming from the wild..

I'll be a newcomer wherever I live - - went back to the town I was born and was called a newcomer because of the accent (town is in england, accent is very australian)
