A spider we don't want in the house... not keen on them outside either. We usually only see them occasionally but this one must have come inside out of the rain. One of my girls found it in the dining room and they know if a spider is big and black not to touch it but let me know.

It must be sick though as it spent most of the time with its legs pulled up and is very sluggish.

A male Blue Spot or Eastern Mouse Spider

Some info on them

Thanks for that info Gail.

I have never seen it before, or even heard of it.
But I will make sure if I do I will keep away from it

if they don't they're weeds.

These guys are very similar to funnelwebs just not as aggressive and usually shy. I've only ever seen about 3 or 4 over the years and they are usually the other mouse spider - the males have a red head instead of the blue spot but can't find a photo of that one. The last time we saw a mouse spider was in July 2007 - this one is a female

That's lucky that your daughters know to be cautious and call you. Scary spider.

Oh that looks even worse Gail ..

Speaking of creatures I was out under the bamboo before checking on the over flow hose from the small tank I picked up the hose it was heavy and full of water but none coming out I put the end up to my eye to see if it was full of leaves and quickly dropped it when I seen this toad head, it jumped out but I could not see it in the mulch such good camouflage.

Tony is going out tonight to play golf on the lawn where you can see them better..

Sorry Gail

Don't you just love the places toads hide... I don't know how many times I've done something similar, Mary-Anne The kids always think its funny to see how high Mum can jump after standing on a toad in bare feet... I get comments such as "I didn't think old people could jump that high"... as they run out of my reach... I'll get my revenge one day

Gail you never know where they are going to turn up do you. Like this one was right in my face believe me I jumped too. I left a bag of potting mix under my outside potting bench and put my hand in to get a scoop I think the entire neighbourhood heard me scream they are everywhere here at present and with the S.C.Mulch laid I cannot see them till I have trod on them or touched them when I have been weeding, they are disgusting creatures ..
