Thanks Gwen.. They come pretty close, by the looks the white in the middle of the flower is bigger in the bottom link.

I see they grow to 2.4mts x 1mt wide.. Now that will be very interesting as where it had been planted next to a big gum tree Tony has built that shade cloth structure for the Tropicals at the back of it so its going to be kind of squashed..

In ideal conditions they can grow that tall but on average 1 to 1.5m high especially outside of the tropics.

It would be around a meter tall now and its starting to get bushy, it may have to be moved.

Mary-Anne, yesterday I noticed buds on the white butterfly ginger you gave me.

It's lucky as I nearly cut off the stem that has the buds on as it is ratty looking... glad I didn't get around to it

This is one of the ones that is supposed to be the blue ginger... still waiting for flowers to be sure

Good one Gail such a pretty white flower, they are a bit strong in the perfume department.. The blue ginger looks healthy too probably wont be long my one was in the ground a year before it flowered.

Do you have a red ginger I have lots of small ones here I grew from seed given to me by shazza one of our Members when she came and collected that bag of daylilies I dont know its right name I will do a search on Google Images later and see what I can find..

Gail,My white butterfly ginger is not very old, it looks very ratty like yours.
I was going to give it a little chop.
I will hold off on the pruners now .Not that I expect flowers on mine yet.

I like perfumed plants so that won't worry me. I don't have any red ones, just a couple of supposedly special ones that hardly do anything except stay about a foot tall

I had already cut one ratty looking stem off the white ginger as it had some nice new shoots coming up at the base. I'm glad I didn't cut the other one of then too.

The Costus are reaching for the sky though..

I googled Red Ginger images it looks quite nice..

My fav. would have to be the Canna Topicanna, I love the colours of the leaves I'll be digging up a lot again this year so if anyone wants some sing out I can squeeze a lot into a express post bag

I do like that one, I'll bookmark a piece of that if I may I also have the green one with the red flowers as well I know they take over but give the rear garden height and depth I think, bloody water hungry buggars though

Its in my book Cheryl, when I go down next I will pot a piece up just to make sure I have it as they tend to get lost in the Autumn
