I don't know if this is actually a problem but I'm curious about it. I planted a batch of Ruttya seeds that Mary-Anne gave me, in one pot to germinate. Out of 30 or so seedlings, about 6 or 7 pure white seedlings have come up. They haven't grown as quick as the green ones but seem strong enough otherwise.

All the seedlings - the two rows on the left are different plants, the ruttyas are the 5 rows on the right - you can see the white ones in the middle

I have no idea what caused it, does anyone know?

Gail . The albino seedling looks like a different species of plant altogether. The largest leaves are a different shape , and the 2 secondary leaves are double leafed like los of citrus.I wonder what they could be . Maybe MA. can help.Pitta.

Yes of course I can help.
Gail... In the email I send you I said that there were a few seeds of this purple salvia in the envelope as well, seeing they were very small like pin heads and the Ruttya seeds were a lot bigger and a different shape I popped them in the same envelope there were not very many maybe six I cannot remember exactly as it must be a while ago..

Why they are white I have no idea. maybe your potting medium is lacking something, I did not soak them in bleach honest its very strange isn't it..Lacking Chlorophyll or something

Mary-Anne, the purple salvias were in a different envelope with some other seeds, can't remember at the moment which other seeds though. I have the salvias in another pot but they haven't come up.

No idea then, maybe they were in the potting mix..
The other seeds were Grevillea pteridifolia and the Grevillea banksii white..

Very strange going ons

Mary-Anne, just dug out the seed envelopes in my seed box (I keep the old envelopes for a while as a record if I need it) and the salvias were with the G banksii white

It is a mystery as I potted all the seeds the same day in the same batch of potting mix and they were all kept side by side in the sort-of hothouse (ex-bird aviary enclosed with colourbond roof and waterproof shadecloth over the mesh to keep it warm and humid)
I don't expect the white ones to grow well but I'll look after them and see what happens.
