I love the colours the Acalypha wilkesiana goes in the Summer.

Just curious as to why these leaves are so big its never happened before. I dont feed it and it only gets the bath water for a drink and rain.

Looking good obviously loves the rain. I don't know why those leaves are bigger, maybe reverting back to the original larger leaf form.

Humm I wonder if that is the answer Gail, as some of the Acalypha varieties have much larger leaves than this particular one. Cuttings are very easy to grow.. I may pop that stem into a pot and see when it grows bigger if it will have all larger leaves or smaller ones or both..

MA. Thats a great idea to strike the larger leaf and see if it stays that way, it may as Gail says revert to the parent.Pitta.

That's right Cheryl they dont like the cold.. I grew about 20 cuttings from those two shrubs, I gave a few to Daniel and planted the rest across the front of the house digging up the Plumbago as they had got too tall, they were going along very well till we got frosts the Winter before last two died.
Last Spring I got Tony to dig them all up and I planted Agapanthus, Deities Bi-Colour and Neomarica gracius in their place tough as old boots those ones..

Oh sorry Gwen I didn't see your reply there.. I went down to cut that stem off after I finished the housework this morning, but ended up sweeping leaves then I put the tank on and watered for a while and still not finished.
I must do it after I finish my lunch.

Thats a pity the cutting died , The colours an that Acalypha wilkesiana are really glorious .I must ask if anyone here has it. John was here today, cleaned out the gutters and planted, Syzygium fibrosum and S. wilsonii Euodia elleryana for mountain blue butterfly food tree.Genus has been changed from Euodia to Melicope. Croton picasso's paintbrush and C. inferno Mucuna bennetti.is now Mucana novo guinensis. Aristolochia tagala vine for Cairns birdwing butterflies. Since John left we are getting good rain.tHE newly planted trees will love it.
