I bought this one from the markets a couple of weeks ago. I have seen it before but don't know its name. I think they are often used as indoor plants though ours will be planted in the garden. Anyone know?

Thanks Pitta I don't know why I didn't pick it as a maranta as there are many similarities to ones I've had before though they all had small white flowers. The flowers on this one are much showier - about 3cm across. Now to find a chance to do a search of the different marantas to see if I can find it.

Gail I wish you better luck finding a name for the Maranta . I have spent hours searching for a species name.I think there is a big variation in the species as in most things in nature.Pitta.

Well done Pitta
One-handed photo taking would be difficult... could try a mini tripod but probably too much trouble to set up each time. I understand your difficulties though as a near neighbour of ours, who is only in her 40s, had a stroke several years ago leaving her paralysed on one side. She didn't let it stop her though as she is now in the National Australian Dressage (horse-riding) team for the disabled.

Gail this is my Maranta sp. The flower when it first comes out is blue fading to white through the day.I'm hoping Ed can give a species name. Pitta.
