I have never trimmed my melastomas as they naturally stay a nice neat rounded shape... the only time one of mine was trimmed was when we had to cut it back to just above groundlevel to get rid of that plumbago. I don't think it really grew back to a good shape as well as it was before.

That is the one that had the couple of branches die back but I didn't get around to trimming those branches back for a couple of weeks and noticed new leaves growing on the 'dead' branches so it was only the leaves on those branches that died not the whole branch. The rest of the plant is still flowering well.

Thanks Gail.
Oh that really good that your plant is coming back Gail, so you reckon its best to leave it, how wonderful that it is not like a lot of my other natives that have to be pruned after flowering otherwise they grow long and lanky.

Should I cut of all those hundreds of seeds pods, its amazing just how many flowers this plant had on it, you do not realize till you see the clusters of seeds pods..

It is up to you whether you want to trim them all off. I don't but it would take ages and I don't have the time or patience. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the shape.

I did try once to grow some of the seed but they didn't germinate though we did have an unexpected cold spell just when they should have been germinating. I will try again one day.

Do those seed capsules drop off eventually

Mine have, they aren't like callistemons whose capsules stay on the branches.
