After a late lunch today we noticed the wind had dropped and with no sun out I decided to mow the grass at the front only trouble was I had to clean it up first as there were twigs, and small branches and that many leaves so I set about raking it as I wanted the leaves for mulch and Tony got the blower out and blew them all off the driveway and just as we finished that part, down came the rain so I never did get to mow..

It heaved down so hard the gutters could not cope and once again poured onto the back decking 11 mm we got in about 6 minutes the driveway was like a running river and the overflow from the tank made the back grass look like a lake. After that quick storm we got stuck into cleaning the block up again I went up to get some cold water to find the electricity off thankfully it came back on about two hours later just in time to cook the dinner..

Oh I missed those ceiling fans, you know I don't care if the lights don't work, or the stove, or anything else for that matter but I cannot do without the air being stirred up in this oppressive humidity.

The Garden looks so refreshed after that storm in the eerie light.

Your garden is looking the best I've seen it for a while We could've done with your rain today... I spent 3 hours watering.

Yes the chooks are enjoying all the wet soil Gail and the green grass, though they are getting picky and leaving a lot of a certain green weed, I don't remember any of our other chooks leaving any type of grass there over the years..

Its hard to believe its so green, I guess we will catch up with the mowing tomorrow

And your turn will come soon...

MA you have my sympathy with the power cut.
Last week end we lost power but as we have 4 big generators in the town that take over when there is an outage we were not concerned.
About an hour after the generators were turned on they all failed, out of sync or something.
All night with no power and very high temps, over 30c all night.
Next day was Sunday and daughter Faye's birthday and temp.reached 41c an all time record for Cooktown..
Power by ERGON was not restored till 12 noon.So 15 hrs out all up.Pitta .

Oh Dear I am so sorry to read that Pitta 15 hours is a long time, that would have been terrible with that heat in the night with no fans, you cant go outside and sleep unless you want to get eaten alive. Shame it had to happen on Faye's Birthday gosh 41 degrees we have not had temps like that for a few years, and dont want them either..

I remember one long blackout a few years back where we were taking the doonas off the bed to cover the freezer up I have a upright separate fridge and freezer and it was full at the time my insurance company only gave you $500 for something like that and I had more than that in my freezer so we gathered up all the newspapers and taped them around then towels sheets and doonas it looked twice its normal size when I had finished but I managed to keep all those cooked casseroles, curries, and spaghetti sauces from thawing out by sandwiching them between the frozen meat I had to throw out some of the bagged veggies as they were thawing but I did not loose much..

MA You sure have to use your ingenuity when you get power cut.
Like you Ive had plenty of experience over the years living up here in the far north where power cuts are common.Pitta.

Feel free to ask anything Pitta, you can always PM me by clicking on the third icon up the top where you reply to anything.

The block is 2990 m2 or 3/4 of a acre Pitta..
Yes I have lived through quite a few Cyclones up in Townsville.

Cheryl its so hard to realise that its green after seven years of drought..
Thankfully I wont have to do that for a while

I am so please to hear MA, even though a bit of damage was about, the rain far outweighs that

Thanks Pamela it does.. And I love the green colour to.

I have just added up the total rain for November from our back yard rain gauge and we got a whopping 295.5 mm in the last three weeks that's just under 1/3 of our Annual total.

Its like a Miracle and they said on the news tonight more storms in the middle of the week..

I had better mow that grass tomorrow it should have dried out a bit by then

Well Gail that has shocked me I thought your total would have been somewhere up near ours, but then you said you had to water for three hours over the weekend, so the garden must be dry..

It will come...
