ota...it was a really nice tomato.
the tomato lover in the house rated it at 7.5/10 and i gave it an 8.

hint: the growth habit is quite spindly. this should also mean the roots are, as roots tend to be the mirror image of what's going on above ground. so i would suggest 2-3 plant in the same pot.
there are currently 42 more tomatoes set on this one spindly plant...so imagine if i'd have known to put 3 of them in that pot?
it's growing in part shade, btw.

Looks divine Tessa. This summer I have all the Bunnings available seedlings but next summer ... next summer ... I will experiment with different tommie varieties. Can't wait for mine - about to throw some fertiliser on them today (Katek like Gail recommended for veggies) as we have rain predicted.

Katek is slowly gaining suppliers and now have their own website http://www.katekfertilizers.com.au/ There is a contact page where you can ask for the closest supplier. Nurseries may have some or may get it in for you. Places like Bunnings and Mitre 10 only sell what they are told to by the bosses, the smaller independents are more likely to have it.

Thanks Gail.. I have been on their website Gail there is no info there on where you can buy it. I have seen the contact page but why bother if we have to drive any distance to pick it up as I know there is none around this area at all..

They don't have it down out little hardware shop or the Produce Store either which surprised me as I can get the ones there that are not usually available in those big places actually I don't buy any fertilizers from Bunnings they are too expensive costing only a few dollars less for their small bags than the price I pay for the big ones at the produce store..

Not to worry Gail our Volunteer tomatoes taste real good without any fertilizer, the ones popping up throughout the garden near the natives shrubs taste even better than the ones in the garden beds that have been transplanted from the compost bin..

It must be the last five years of mulch that have gone down has enriched the garden soil.

mary-anne...actually...you get more tomatoes the less you fertilize them.
you want to make them think they're dying. then they try to reproduce...and hey...that means tomatoes!

that said...
you can go to the special orders desk in bunnings and ask them to order the katek for you.
now...how'd i know that?
LOL.

The nursery in my tiny village had the Katek. But I am fascinated with Tessa's comment - tommies ARE just like roses - make them think they are dying although phosphate does a treat - maybe I will use the Katek for the corn and other veggies and just use the B&B and phosphate for the tommies.

Sorry Tessa, I thought I had replied to your post That tommie does look nice... though I like mine without salt or pepper, just straight

I use Katek on everything - vegies, fruit trees, seedlings, pots and any ornamentals I feed (the dogs usually eat any around the plants on the ground though ) The tomatoes get it too and give heaps of fruit - got so many now I'm thinking of making sauce to freeze - but you are right with when it comes to starving them and most flowering plants are the same... they think they are dying and hurry up to reproduce.
