yay well done Michelle, yes they look great grouped like most bulbs do

My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers;
if they don't they're weeds.

As the bulbs were expensive ,I bought a couple to see how they would go.
Now, I know that they will be a success ,I will get a lot more to create a mass effect.
They will also multiply, so it wont take long to get a great look!

Now I will have to find a spot in the garden!!

Cheers Michelle

What do you call dear.. Roses are expensive, Lilac Plumeria are expensive around $200 a pop what is the going price for a Hippy bulb down south

My big red hippy has lots of seeds bursting all over the garden if you want any Cheryl and Michelle.

Pick up flowering plants at the markets here for a couple of dollars - unnamed though but lots of nice colours

Do you do the water floatation method for starting hippie seeds Mary-Anne? I found it worked really well for germination. I never got to see mine flowering because we moved house. I am always near my old house because my mum lives just down the road, lots of foliage but still no flowers from them. I think I grew them 3 years ago so I would have thought they should have flowered this year. Not to worry the people at our old house seem to love the garden and have looked after them so maybe I will see them next year.

No I don't Jacqueline I don't have steady enough hands now to prick out the little shoots without breaking the legs off

I just throw the seeds in pot and leave them under the bid gum tree.

Its sad sometimes when you see how your other gardens are after you did them.

Oh yes. I would keel over if this garden wasn't looked after, after all the work that has gone into it!

About the hippys ,now that the flowers have gone ,do you leave the foliage for a while and then wait till next year, like other bulbs?

Cheers Michelle

I let mine die a natural death..
Remove nothing as they could produce seed pods..
Then you can plant them up and get more for free.

Thanks MaryAnne!

You were quick off the mark!!
Will do.
I will leave it at the back of the garden and have a look at it around spring time next year.

Cheers Michelle
