This purple African Daisy just keeps on growing no matter what the weather - loves the heat. It occasionally needs a trim to keep it tidy but that is all I do to it. I have a couple of the purple as well as the white, are very rarely without a flower and good for filling in gaps.

I planted this petunia in Sept 07 - 15mths ago - and it is still going strong. It has been trimmed back twice (I will be trimming it again soon) and rarely gets watered except by rain. I have it planted around the bulbs to give some colour and fill in the gaps when the bulbs die back.

This dark red crucifix orchid flowers well and doesn't get any special treatment.

The dianella never gets watered and still has a few flowers and bright blue berries on it after a couple of months flowering.

Lovely Gail. I have the african daisies also.
I also have a lot of roses that never get watered. These are the toughest of the lot. The 50 scabrosa bare roots I bought 18 months ago are powering down the driveway with only what falls from the sky and no mulch.

Yes I have a few roses that only get what falls from the sky Pamela, climbers and ramblers where they are too far away from dragging the three hoses joined together from the front of house, and too much of a effort to drag the same hose around the back of the house and over to them..
But then it has been a good year for rain here and that certainly makes a difference. Hot and dry for many years living on bucketed water a different story..

The roses in cemetries, even in SEQ, that have survived for hundreds of years are testimony to the toughness of roses where nothing else survives, even in hot and dry for years on end.

Gwen, I don't know its full proper name only that it is an osteospermum. I will put a piece in your parcel which I will send next week.
Roses are one plant we don't want here they might have a pretty flower that is nice to admire in someone elses garden but neither of us like them otherwise.
