When I was walking around the garden this morning I came across these frangis which had splotches on them. I haven't seen that on these before, wonder what caused it. Looks like mother nature's paintbrush dripped

These flowers - including the ones above - are from 4 different trees. I don't know if they are all the same variety but don't think so - they are all much the same stage of opening. We originally got them from friends who owned a nursery and imported quite a few different frangis from Hawaii. They gave us quite a few cuttings from different plants but we did lose a few when we moved around a lot.

The Evergreen has started flowering too

No Gail its a real mystery ,the oddly blotched ones. Do you have a name for that lovely orangy/deep pink , with butter yellow middle.Pic no5. Faye & I went for haircuts today, then did a town tour. I've found evergreen Singapore white, next we can ask the owner for a branch. Cooktown has many varieties mostly common ones,Pitta.Still waiting for rain.

I love the evergreen, it is my favourite frangi. I'll keep a watch on that frangi with the splotches and see what happens.
Pitta, I have no idea on names for those frangis - I just call them tri-colours - though that pink and yellow can't really be called a tri

So I wait in anticipation for my Darwin Sunset to flower maybe next year As I have not had it long it could even be similar. Not that the pic on the label is anything to go by

Do you get much frangi rust up Nth. I get it every year down here
My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers; if they don't they're weeds.

I've yet to get any rust but no doubt will eventually.
The frangis above are all from cuttings from about 20 years ago before they started giving them fancy names but that Darwin Sunset looks similar, a bit pinker though.

Hi Gail - it's been a while since I wrote but just dropped by to see what is happening. Really, really busy at work and always tired when I come home, hence no GardenDan on GD lately. BUT, the sight of your frangi's is just inspiring. Thanks!

Gail you frangipanis are so pretty. Sometimes blotching can be from certain fertilizers.

Daniel, hopefully work will settle down for you soon so you can enjoy the garden again. The garden shouldn't be a chore but something to enjoy so sit back and relax when you can
Marlene, the frangis are never fed, actually that whole area they are planted is never fed and only watered from the sky.

Talking about feeding plants. In the last 22 years I have purchased 2 bags of dynamic lifter for the garden. Otherwise I used to foliage spay with fish fertiliser , a few special plants in pots. Of course this volcanic soil is so rich, it does'nt need help.Pitta.

I don't feed much either - only vegies, fruit trees once a year and pots when I remember with an organic fertiliser made up of all the yummy stuff like chook manure, fish, seaweed, blood & bone, etc. Anything else is only fed by mulch and falling leaves.

Looking forward to seeing yours Ota. Flowering depends of temperature and day length so yours would flower at different times to us
