love it, and smells good too

My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers;
if they don't they're weeds.

The Verdict is in, it smells if you could call it a smell like a mild soap of some kind I give it the thumbs down.

Nothing like its neighbour JTO..

The poor roses Standards.. Half of Gold Bunny's graft is dead, about half of my Standards have scale, Julia's Rose, Joy of Life, Edelweiss need pep up pills, Just Joey is on his way to the wheelie bin and following close behind is Brass band, next will be Camp David I some how feel a lot of my roses will not make it through this wet season, and if they don't I will not be replacing them..

Pillar Rose Renae is the worst rose I have got only grown about 60 cms in a few years I am debating if I should just shovel prune it, or dig it up and plant somewhere else..

Don't feel like the lone ranger Mary-Anne. Luckily Just Joey is doing nicely here. Paradise has been my best bloomer so far this year no PM or BS. Pinkie...for a so called vigorous rose has been slow to start but is getting a wriggle on now. Jude the Obscure and Mary Rose are also doing very well as far as foliage goes...no blooms now for a few weeks. I have a double grafted Bonica and Iceberg....thought the poor thing would tip sideways...loaded with iceberg blooms....only a few Bonica.
Anyway Mary-Anne if you see a Paradise rose for sale next winter do give it a go.......I figure by winter time you might have forgiven them enough to bother with another.....I always seem to forget my disappointment and buy another one...stupid stupid me...pointless exercise I think trying to grow roses here.

I hear Listerine is good for mildew - applied with a toothbrush of course. But then the Karcher is even better :-))

I agree with this too Jacqueline

The Southerners have no idea what it is like to grow roses here.

I get told I have grown the wrong roses and I don't want to grow those other ones I don't care how good they are.. I do grow a few that are not floribunda or HT's and even those now look terrible.

The only good looking roses on the block are three Icebergs and three DA's

Sad news MaryAnne ,but dont you put your roses into dormancy now until the worst of summer is over.?
Then they might have a better chance.
If I remember correctly ,this has worked for you in the past.

Cheers Michelle

Hey you are putting me off roses as we just got a heap of good info on roses to grow in the tropics from Cree - Deb Kelly - of Jugiong NSW in Roses forum under topic Oh!..Nahema. I know nothing at all about growing roses but after reading all the types you can get for humid places I thought it worth a try.

Now I am having second thoughts. The picture of the Graham Thomas looks great to me though you say it smells like soap and is not doing very well. Ummmmmmmmm! Should I get tropical roses or not!

I love the look and scent of a beautiful rose but will it bloom .....?? !!!

Maybe I should stick to tropical plants.
