Following TasV's comments on the likelihood of my rose being a Rosa Rugosa, I thought I'd post some pics so you can tell me! These were all in place when I bought this place a year ago.

This one is pale pink, with only one layer of petals, that open fairly flat - it actually seems like a climber to me and i am sure is in the wrong spot. From your description I think it may be a Rugosa.

The other one I was referring to was this one:

I actually have 2 - it is very bushy, with matt leaves and masses of buds - they sucker a lot and have been quite unwell and due to an aphid infestation last year didn't flower. This year it has just started flowering. It has masses of small, tight buds that open to this:

And the star of the moment is this one:

It is a beautiful deep red, smells, flowers frequently and with multiple flowers - and it has even survived being moved and shows no pests, despite being near the other rose when it was infested.

Sorry the pics are so bad - I need a new camera I think!

Ok... none are Rosa rugosa... or any rugosa type roses. The bottom one is some kind of hybrid tea... the others... if you could take some close-ups of the flowers, bud, leaves, thorns etc. These kind of diagnostic shots help to narrow down the list of possibilities. Flower colour is notoriously unreliable because flowers in one area/climate may look different to those in other areas/climates.

I need to take a few nice pics of my unknows, I am sure Tas would know

My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers;
if they don't they're weeds.
