We have heaps of birds on the block. The ubiquitous brush turkey is very common and the males build their giant nests using all our jungle and garden mulch. We put vegy scraps out and they love them - especially any fruit skins.

A bird that makes gardening difficult... except when it comes to making compost heaps We have the occasional one that wanders through the paddock and I don't mind as long as he stays outside the fenced yard. A few years ago we had trouble with one that kept flying into the banana tree and eating the bananas

Yes the brush turkey has no problem flying up into the tallest tree. When we had paw paws they always took bites out of the best fruit!

Beautiful pigeon Faye Love the kingfisher too. We have one that comes up near the house but as soon as anyone goes near a door or window all you see is a flash of blue as it flies back down to the dam where it lives. I have never been lucky enough to get a photo.

Mary-Anne, it is the Wonga pigeon and the Wonga wonga vine in Dreamtime stories.

The wompoo pigeon is so lovely! As is the kingfisher. I found a sacred kingfisher dead on my deck not long ago. Only bird to have not recovered from flying into my windows or maybe it died of old age. Gorgeous colours.

Baby Sun Bird in nest. They build their nests on the verandah and a dedicated mum and dad rear the young. They have to build in an area where the snakes can't get to them or the nest gets raided.

A very pretty bird and nice to have them nesting so close to where you can see them.

This is one of our less attractive birds but a real character. It splashes the water out of the bird bath.

It is a leatherhead or friarbird.

A pair of orange footed scrub fowl. They seem to be 'loving' couples as they always travel in pairs and if one gets killed the other seems to stay alone. They move in interesting ways in short little busy runs and then peck about looking for grubs especially in the damp ground. Often the brush turkey will chase them and they take off but occasionally as if they have had enough they will chase the turkey back and scare it off.

We have the friarbirds here but I've never seen the other ones... look interesting with that crest... nearly dinosaur like
