Has anyone had a sleepwalker in the family? One of my girls occasionally sleepwalks, none of my side of the family ever sleepwalked but it does seem to run in the family on Ian's side. It is actually quite funny sometimes. So far it is usually around the same time at night when we are sitting in the loungeroom watching tv or something after the kids go to bed and my daughter will come out and do or say something but is obviously not with it. She came out the other night again and started to make two cups of milo, one for herself and one for her sister (who was asleep at the time). I asked her what she was doing and she just said 'I don't know', I asked if she wanted a drink, she said yes and so gave her a drink of water then took her back to bed.
Another time she came out with one shoe on, carrying her other shoe and sat down on the lounge to put the other shoe on to get ready for school... at 9.30pm! One time she thought she was still playing hide and seek with the other kids like they had been playing earlier, but she couldn't find their hiding places. The funniest time was when she walked out, stood there with her arms crossed with a grumpy look on her face and said 'I'm not happy! It's not funny!' then turned round and stomped back to bed. She doesn't remember anything the next day and we still have no idea why she wasn't happy
I just hope she doesn't get worse though as Ian's sister went to go for a walk down the road once when she was little, her parents caught her going through the front gate She did grow out of it eventually. Ian's father apparently sleepwalked too when he was little.

Just as well you do not live in the city on a major road!

Good idea Ed
No major roads within 2kms but she would probably fall in the dam... or step in a pile of fresh cow manure
I do wonder whether she would have tried to go to school after she put her shoes on

I sleep walk to the shower every morning
My basic weeding rule: if they grow in rows they're flowers; if they don't they're weeds.

i was a sleepwalker. you grow out of it. gail...if she falls in the dam...it will wake her up and instinct will take over. also...if she's walking the road or something (not a problem over there) her consciousness still understands to remain safe and watch for traffic.

She does seem to know what she is doing just not aware of it in the morning. You can have a conversation with her though she seems a little slow to understand. We actually think it is a little funny though we do try not to laugh in front of her... much - she takes it in good humour
We have worked out that mostly she seems to sleepwalk after we have a bbq at night so now the other kids, the terrors that they are, keep suggesting that we have a bbq just to see what she gets up to next time
