Of course you are right Jan about the name.. I happen to write the name Waratah gave me down in my book and didn't cross it out before I wrote the correct name that you ID ed for me not long after that.. I remembered you writing it was known as the Japanese roof Iris..

I must say it likes the climate here my one plant has grown to about thirty in the past twelve months and its still flowering like crazy..

I may dig up and pot one of my Louisiana Iris another one that has multiplied so much also

And put it in my waterlily humm huge pot seeing the two fishes Molly and Polly have disappeared we think the frogs ate them..

Its 50cm tall would that be ok or is that too deep.... Thanks..

50cm is OK for a Louisiana, but you could sit it up on a brick. How wide is your pot?
They will look lovely, especially with the iris in bloom.
Cheers, Jan

Thanks Jan.

That huge Horse bowl is not 50cm deep its only 40cm I forgot it was resting on two layers of paver's The inside width is 60cm.

Yes it will look lovely in there with the white Native Waterlily it has a very small flower but often more than one of the cluster is flowering at the same time..

Small is right.

A Close up.

What would we do without white flowers they go with everything..

What size pot should I put the Louisiana Iris in Jan... Thanks Again.

I know I've seen those little waterlilies plenty of times but I still can't get over how cute they are they just don't look real.

Oh - how sweet is that little flower!
Your louisiana could go in a 8" or 10" pot, depending on it's size. If it is growing well it should outgrow that pot in one season, and you can divide it and share it, or put some somewhere else. It will grow in the garden if it receives enough water, and is mulched very well. Some people grow them in a depression where there is a water run off, or put plastic (just a bag will do) about 10cm below the rhizome, in the planting hole, to slow the drainage.

Pamela its a gorgeous colour it has not flowered this season yet, I took that photo on the day I bought it last the 11th November.

Gail I love this little waterlily you gave me I lifted the three pots out this afternoon and had a look the other waterlily has never flowered yet but the three pots are very healthy one is a water grass/weed.

Jan I will do that..
I read about the plastic bag on a link I put on the other Iris Topic.. Thanks Again.

Mary-Anne, the other waterlily will flower once it warms up, they die back a bit in the cold weather.

Can't remember what colour now. They generally start flowering October or November I think for about 3mths - do need full sun though or the flowers won't open.

Do you mean full sun all day

I don't want to move that horse bowl as I would have to empty it out and I think it takes 90 lts and the baby noisy miners are getting their first lessons in Olympic diving off the rim..

Awww they are so cute..

I watch them from the kitchen window over the sink helps pass the time..

The flowers close up when the shade reaches them, that is why we moved our pond a couple of years ago, it only got the sun for about 3 hours and the flowers would close by lunch time.

Where our one is does get a lot more sun than that Gail I will wait a while and see what happens and if they don't flower by mid November I will empty the bowl out and put it right at the back of the house full sun most of the day there, could get a bit of shade late afternoon when the sun hits the tall gum trees on the North West side of the block..

Louisianas wil take more shade than a lot of the other sun lovers. If you want a shade loving plant that is not iris, to fill that area, the NZ rengarenga lily might do the trick. Can't remember it botanical name. Starts with "A" :-)
