I use that elcheapo mix sometimes too but most of the time I just use a compost mix of whatever I have handy... but then I don't have many big pot plants either.

Some of my pots are huge and I always used Searles terracotta and tub potting mix its the best for me. I use a controlled released fertilizer Osmocote or similar for pots there are different ones for different plants as you would know.. I also give them a shower of Seasol occasionally. I should image there would be a special mix for camellias and azaleas.

Now having said that Garden Dan *Daniel* makes the best potting mix, I think he uses vermiculite, peak moss and coarse river sand and could possible add to that a little very aged chook poo or even a little garden soil, but I could be wrong I must get the recipe from him as I noticed down the produce store they have large bags of vermiculite so I though I would make my own up next time I have to re-pot mine as its cost me around $70 the last time for the bagged ones and I reckon for that kind of money I can make a better product myself.. And it would probably cost a lot more now as that was two years ago..

When I bought my Petite Pink Dwarf Frangipani it was a small plant and Daniel gave me the mix to fill this huge pot up and I was amazed at the growth on that plant where the other shrubs planted at the same time lagged so much behind..

Now when you get that pot on its side get a very long knife and go around the inside its also good to poke a rod into the holes underneath that will help remove some of those stubborn roots down the base..

I also put water crystals in the mix when I re-pot.. I am a great believer in B&B and if you feel what you are doing is right for your pots keep doing it by all means just go a little lighter on the fertilizer after all your plant looks healthy enough its just those burn marks, either the sun or fertilizer.. As Gail said a good rinse will help remove all those salts..

Great timing peoples. We have to move a camelia this weekent to as the fences are being built. I am just going to dig it out and replonk over there somewhere. My husband has hired an auger for the posts and bought all the fencing...and I think it will be the case that I will be ringing a fencing contracter by Sat afternoon. They also have to incorporate a rose arch over the front gate. Anyway, i shall certainly have the camera fully charged for this debarcle...
I think you will see my point when I say my husband is a lawyer and his fencing helper manages pubs......so we are flying on a wing and a prayer...I am avoiding the flight altogether

Sounds like fun Jacqueline! A lawyer and a pub manager - a good combination - who supplies the refreshments It's a pity you aren't closer to me, I know a couple of fencing contractors

Cheryl, you'll need some of those refreshments too

All hard work deserves a treat - for me there's nothing better than a Bundy rum and coke... only one though

Cheryl - I am on the G&T diet. You have a G&T before dinner, and then another and then ... no dinner. :-)) Love it!!! But I have a good lunch and sometimes make a healthy dip from the garden to have with some lovely woodfired bread and my G&T. Truth is I am often so tired at night that after one G&T, I am too tired to cook ...
