this tomato originates from quebec province in canada. hence the name.
it has been my healthiest, best fruiter setter ever (apart from my dearly departed cherry tomato machine. RIP.) canabec super managed to resist the dreaded tomato russet mite invasion and while all the other tomato plants went into heavy decline...it powered on, setting fruit after fruit after fruit.
here she is today, about to cough up the goods:

i harvested the first ripe one last week. it was nothing to write home about...but that's because it got horribly sunburned over christmas and boxing day, 42, and 44 degrees respectively. it would be unfair to judge it after that horror week. hopefully, these next ones will give a better impression.
here she is...the already devoured, sunburned first fruit.

I have to give you 10 out of 10 for effort Tessa I think you are marvelous the way you just soldier on regardless of how good or bad the tomatoes turn out. I also like the way you post pics of the not so good parts of the tomatoes so we can see how they do turn out..
Its good that you have managed to get a good crop from one variety *Well Done*.
Nifty pair of scales you have there Tessa I might upgrade seeing mine are 44 years old Did you get them here or overseas.
I don't think the very hot weather you are having is any good for tomatoes either, that's why I don't grow any named varieties in the Summer here then there is the fruit fly so only the volunteers grow here in the Summer..

sunny...i got the scales at kmart here for $29.
i think that that first fruit has been half cooked by the time i got to it...but i think that some of those fruits in the top piccie might turn out okay...so i'll let you know.
also...they say that the first fruit is usually not as tasty as the later fruits...so there's that to consider as well.

Ah I see a trip to Kmart in the near future as I am finding it very hard to read the lines on my scales you know I never think of looking for those kind of things and as we get older we need all the help we can get.
I have to agree with you about the first fruit it is not as tasty. Shame about them getting cooked in that terrible heat and I would love to know how the other ones taste..

Well done Tessa. Before you know it you will be eating, and enjoying lots of tomatoes. Shame about the sunburn but at least it isn't contagious.

Wow your plant looks great Tessa! Mine is a much sorrier specimen but has set a fair bit of fruit.
Had anymore to judge the flavour? It seemed like a bit of an all purpose kind of flavour to me, like it would cook ok or be ok in a salad if not excelling at either role. It's a mile in front of the rubbish at the shops and looks like a heavy bearer if you get it right by the looks of yours! |

could i interest you in a fist full of canabec supers????

these are now my favourite tomatoes. (don't forget...i'm not a tomato lover, so you must take this with a grain of salt. pepper also goes nicely) they have a nice acid/sugar balance, are very silky in texture...and are, for me, the best tomato i've had yet on toast with cream cheese. i can't get enough of them!

i've got lots of seeds now...so these will be making a comeback next year.

Gosh they look good to me Tessa that's a nice bunch if ever I have seen one.
We have to buy some from the shops tomorrow. First time for many months heaps of green ones on the plants though.

Looks real good Tessa. Might have to get some seeds off you one day
At the moment I have so many tomatoes. I haven't had time to cook them up into a sauce for freezing which I normally do when I have too many. I still have relish left from my last glut too. At least they go well with the cucumbers
