sorry gail...missed your post here.
i won the footy tipping this year and it was the 'awards' luncheon at which, i must admit, i remained remarkably sober...tho i had planned otherwise

here's the state of my greenhouse (soon to be converted to a shade house) today:

quite a lot of recently potted up seedlings:

the dwarf project coming along well. the dwarf on the right is the brown dwarf.

the cucurbits need planting out soon:

and here we can see pieface's care package. everything in the yellow container is his for the taking...
sorry...i know you said 10...but there's 12 in there. take them all...or just what you want. plus there's a thai green eggplant, and a big jim pepper:

everything got off to a slow, sluggish start...but they really seem to have woken up in the past few days and are motoring on towards summer. good luck pieface!

Now I'm confused. You referred to Pieface as "him". I thought I was taken to task over making a wrong gender assumption.

Love the tommies

Oh I remember now it is ME who was confused. It was Otamot that I made the wrong assumption about (sorry Otamot). And hello Pieface. And no more threads with "girls" in it now dear posters! Glad we have a Pie man!

I may be simple but I'm no Simon
Just the friendly GD Pie Man

Thanks muchly to Tessa and Liz for having us around. We got to see her beautiful spuds and her hideous mole crickets! I think Anna liked the chooks the best to be honest It inspired me to have a fossick around in my spuds last night and we had some delicious roasters for my trouble. Still not as big as yours tho' Tessa!

So it is onward and upwards for the tomatoes. Hopefully I strike the right balance of care and meanness this year and get a good result.

Oh dear sorry to hear about the blight I hope Gail's Green Zebra will be ok.

And speaking of Gail's Green Zebra I ate that one of hers last night with my salad and very tasty it was too, certainly a different taste to the shop bought ones.

Way to go little zeb!

I'm picking many more gzs than the others, they are heavy bearers and I think they are quickly becoming a favourite in taste - so smooth and full of flavour and a very thin tender skin. My main dislike in tomatoes is thick or tough skins.

I had cheese and GZ tomatoes on toast for breakfast this morning which made Ian look twice - at first glance he thought the cheese had grown green mould!

Planting out this weekend Tessa. The little fella's have taken off in their foam cups, must be a good brew you have them in! I prepped the soil last night so it is bombs away on the weekend.

Big Jim and the Thai eggplant are the only ones who are not doing much. Probably still a bit cold for them to do their thing!

my big jim is doing nothing as well. time to get out the whip!
the eggies are going gangbusters tho. they're loving it in the greenhouse.

i've been told on another site that my tommy may not have blight...but frost bite.
so i'll ask gail if her's looked like this after her frost.

Not that I know much...seems odd to get frost in your greenhouse? Have you pulled the plastic off or anything yet Tessa?

I have mine sitting out in the open more or less and they aren't suffering despite the cool nights. I have to say though the best tommie I have growing at the minute is one that sprung up in the pavement of all places! It's going gangbusters.

yeah....i pulled the plastic off with that heatwave...only to get caught out with the cold snap!
while we may not have had frost...the greenhouse is downhill from the road, and the cold really settles up against the house where it is.
then not long after...the sun comes out, blazes through the plastic ceiling...and fries the leaves.
so it could be either cold damage...or sunscald!
oh the fun and excitement here in the west!

hey pie...i've still got a few more green zebra seedlings kicking around...so if you have any disasters up there...there's backup!
