Posted - 12/03/2009 : 16:34:49 Its not a lily pond really its a horse bowl found it down the produce store near the chook food which is near the horse food and accessories, I noticed of late none of the waterlilies were flowering and the Gingers and Poinsettia were getting so much taller and that pond was in shade more than in the so I decided to move it.
First I had to saw this Queensland Maple down to about 2.4 mts it was about 5 mts tall with nothing down the bottom 4 mts a stupid tree been in for years and only as thick as a saucer..
That took about three minutes..

Tony carted away all the branches and cut all the small stuff up for mulch..
I took all the pots out of the Lily pond Would you believe I had six in there..

Tony emptied the water out of the horse bowl then I got to work
I shoveled all the lose soil into the barrow leveled it off put down some packing sand. Added a layer of bricks then pavers leveled it again it was just right Put the horse bowl on top leveled that off and put some of the pots back in. There were even water lilies growing in the sediment at the bottom The Native ones not Gails Yellow one
Went around the garden dug up some of Gail's Dianella revoluta.

Some other Dianella a darker blue I hope.

Also a cutting of Gail's Calphimin I wonder what colour its flowers are Put two small seedlings of Stenocarpus floribunda the white flowered creeper. In case one does not make it if they do I will take the second one out.
Some variegated could be Liriope I have idea what it is but I like it.

And green Liriope..

I went out the front and pinched some small rocks from around Dry Creek Bridge. The big one was so heavy I could hardly get it on the trolley. Lucky for me Tony came back just in time to do the lifting I need more rocks will have to buy some more.
So that's its Folks.. A little bare at present it will thicken up in time.

And I can see me adding to it all the time. Oh No said Tony dont you think you have enough garden to look after now. I told him this one is a no maintenance garden and it is..

Only one thing left Tony has to drill some holes in the tree trunk So I can, actually he can pour poison into it to sent it on its way To that garden in the Sky....

Posted - 12/03/2009 : 20:31:04 Cheryl when we were building the house here we had to get a rubble pit dug out down the back Council law/rules as the stormwater had to go somewhere it was a little over a cubed metre and we had to wait till the Inspector came and okeyed it to be filled in, we started the house in July and the first thing that was done was the steel posts, then the plumber came and done all that drainage/sewage and water pipes and connected the water, before we started on the bearers and joists then us two would not be in his way.
We did not finish the house to a live in stage till the third week in December and at that time we did get a bit of rain and of course into the rubble pit it went and any of the holes left by the plumber that had fallen in and my job every morning there for quite a while was to go down to the rubble pit or any holes and scoop the Toad spawn out of the water and I would just leave it on the ground to dry out I reckon I killed thousands of toad eggs seeing a female can lay 8,000 to 35,000 eggs at a time.. So you can understand why I have no ponds at ground level otherwise I would have something much bigger and more natural looking..
The Council came about February to Ok everything to do with drainage then we were permitted to fill that big hole in with broken tiles, bricks, stones, it made no sense to me as with in a year it was clogged up with silt and grass grew in the pipes so no more of that every morning for me. Any way the Toads could not spawn there after it was filled in as Gwen said they need water..
Yellow flower is it Gail thanks..I will have to dig it up and plant it somewhere else then as its way to big..

What is the Calphimin? I don't know that one... scratching head... would it happen to be Galphimia? If it is, it is a bushy shrub to about 1 or 1.2m that gets covered in spikes of small bright yellow flowers for most of the year. It is a tough little plant that doesn't need a lot of water... thrives on neglect... I've grown in here as well as at previous places. The one below gets a little too much shade so is a little bigger and slightly straggly than what they are if grown in full sun. It does flower in the shade as well as the sun though.

Cheryl, Toad and Frogs are amphibians, they must have water for breeding , they lay their eggs into water and leave them to develop.. They would'nt be as keen on eating plants as they would in eating insect
