Posted - 17/02/2009 : 22:34:44 I though these were weeds when they came up a couple of weeks ago Surely this is early for Freesia
Looking back through my last years photo's The first flower opened on 13th August. Surly it does not take 6½ months for them to flower Does Anyone know...

Posted - 20/02/2009 : 07:29:29 When mine flop over Gail, I cut them back by half and yes I agree 100% they are messy buggars but then again a huge clump of Daffs are a welcoming sight

Posted - 20/02/2009 : 07:16:45 They are unsightly Gail when they are dieing down, but when they flower in the Spring it well worth it for the colours.
I find the Babiana the worse their stems stay upright dead and hard for many months I ended up breaking them off as they looked terrible under the Standard rose they looked like a clump of small dead tree branches..

Posted - 20/02/2009 : 04:50:27 I'm starting to wish I didn't have so many bulbs, they are too much trouble - the ones I've planted are ones that don't need to be lifted as I wanted them to grow into big clumps but only really look good for a couple of weeks flowering a year, then so messy as they are dying back and aren't supposed to cut them. The flowers are pretty but I will leave them to others I think.

Posted - 19/02/2009 : 10:09:04 Oh yes I remember it well Gwen I use to work in the City in one of the Myer offices and had to get the train home, it was a very long walk from the station too but those old red rattler traps were terrible trains, I for one was glad when the blue trains came into service..
Now look at them all silver and as smooth as..

Posted - 19/02/2009 : 08:08:49 In Melbourne at the big Flinders ST Railway Station there were many flower stalls . People on their way home would buy bunches of flowers in season such as . Iceland Poppies ,Gladiolus,Blue Violets , Stock, Boronia brown or pink, Daffodils and all the spring flowering bulbs in flower. Oh I can smell them now .lovely memories. Thanks Cheryl. Travelling home on the train was a pleasure.Remember that MA.

Posted - 19/02/2009 : 04:40:11 thanks everyone, I have a nice Daphne but kill Boronias, only get one season, but I do get one every so often, cheaper than a bunch of flowers and the smell is worth it
I'm not too good with tulips either, hardly worth it really, flowers dont last long for all the mucking around you have do do etc...
Pitta I have the native Violet here years ago, was to invasive so I ripped it all out, took a few years to get rid of, bit like the aluminum creeper
